Basic Service Fee
This is the basic charge that all funeral homes charge for each funeral service. It includes, but is not limited to, a proportionate share of the taxes, licenses and business expenses necessary to serve the community in a professional manner. Also included in this charge at Earthman Funeral Directors is the consultation with the family, clerical and administrative services, preparation and completion of necessary permits, consultation with clergy, cemetery, crematory or common carriers, planning the funeral and placement of obituary notices in newspapers and on the Internet (Earthman Funeral Directors provides free online obituaries on this web site to all of the Families it serves).
Embalming
Embalming is a chemical process which provides temporary preservation of the body and eliminates certain health hazards. Only a state-licensed individual can perform this procedure. Except in certain cases, embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary, however, if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a traditional funeral service where the casket will be open for viewing. If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require it such as direct cremation or immediate burial.
